Antidote to “Justice My Sister”

Course Description:

Invisible College and Opaque College are aligned on the importance of justice and balance. Where we diverge is on how those concepts should be defined and applied. At Opaque College, we believe in imposed justice, that people cannot be trusted to calibrate an internal sense of justice and carry it out with fairness. This is because the state said so, and because the more personal the practice of justice becomes to us, the more personal injustice feels.

Texts referenced in this course include Keeping Up With The Kardashians and Kamala Harris’ 107 Days and Smart on Crime—works by and about some of the leading, justice-driven Libra pioneers of our time.

“I never knew that the Libra figure carries a scale. All the Libras I know are at least a little skewed in their thinking, so I don’t think they should be the authority on matters of justice and balance. Anyway, because of IC’s Justice My Sister course, I spent my Libra season questioning our cultural narratives of fairness and grew increasingly attached to the cosmos as overseer of justice. Opaque College brought me back to earth, particularly with its close reading of Harris’ 107 days, which highlights that the 2024 election was not fair. Nevertheless, Opaque College understands that it’s best to talk about these matters at a very high level, as personalizing them and considering the role of justice in our own lives is a portal to discontent.”
